🍞 3 Savory Sourdough Recipes to Try This Week

The Sourdough Slice

Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning.

Hey Reader,

Happy Mother’s Day! 🌸

Are you making anything with sourdough to celebrate?

I’m keeping things simple over here and making a loaf of sourdough bread for avocado toast topped with fried fresh eggs straight from my chicken coop. Honestly, one of my favorite breakfasts.

I’m also planning to spend a lot of time outside this weekend getting my garden ready since it’s almost time to plant summer veggies here in Massachusetts. My garlic, shallots, and herbs are already doing fantastic.

And I officially had my first watermelon of the season! One of my favorite summer snacks is watermelon with chili lime seasoning sprinkled on top — sounds strange but it is so good.

Other than that, I’ve been busy testing more fun and flavorful sourdough inclusions lately. Right now I’m working on a loaded baked potato loaf and a PB&J loaf 🤗 Stay tuned for those!

But for now, I’m sharing three new savory sourdough bread recipes to hold you over.

I hope you give one (or all) of them a try and enjoy! ☺️

A simple, yet flavorful inclusion that pairs with just about anything.

To help you get the best results, here are some ingredients and tools I recommend:

  • Food Scale - Measuring by weight is the easiest way to get consistent results every time.
  • Dutch Oven - Creates steam while baking so you get a beautiful rise and crust.
  • Straight-Sided Containers - Easier to track bulk fermentation.
  • Bread Sling - Helps you safely transfer dough into a hot Dutch oven.
  • Lame - Gives you control and confidence when scoring your dough for an even rise.
  • Proofer - Allows you to control the proofing temperature to better predict bulk fermentation timing.

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Do you like swimming? Living on the coast of Massachusetts, I grew up swimming in the ocean, so it's one of my favorite things to do every summer. I finally got to spend a day at the beach with a friend this past weekend. The water was definitely chilly, but it was so much fun! I also babysat my four-month-old niece for the first time. Baby snuggles really are the best. We napped, ate,...

If so, what's the last concert you went to? 🎶 Last Friday, my friends and I went to see Noah Kahan at Fenway Park in Boston, and it was amazing! We were right up front and had so much fun singing and dancing along. But now that I'm 37, my feet were definitely aching by the end of the night, and getting home at 1 AM was rough. 😆 The rest of my week...

Hey Reader, Do you ever go fruit picking? 🫐 One of my favorite fall traditions is apple picking, but this week I switched things up and went blueberry picking with my sister's family instead. It was so much fun (and delicious)! I ended up bringing home four pounds of blueberries, which are now tucked away in my freezer for future recipes. Besides filling my freezer with blueberries, I also went to...
