🍅 Sourdough Focaccia You'll Want to Make All Summer

Hey Reader,

Do you like going to see live music? If so, what's the last concert you went to? 🎶

Last Friday, my friends and I went to see Noah Kahan at Fenway Park in Boston, and it was amazing! We were right up front and had so much fun singing and dancing along. But now that I'm 37, my feet were definitely aching by the end of the night, and getting home at 1 AM was rough. 😆

The rest of my week was spent outside, as usual. I harvested my garlic crop (72 heads in total!), and it's now curing in my basement alongside my shallots. I also rented a backhoe, and with the help of some friends, we finally got my yard completely graded. Now comes the hard part... watering and patiently waiting for the new grass to grow.

One of my favorite things I made this week was a garden-inspired sourdough focaccia topped with cherry tomatoes and lots of fresh herbs from my garden. It turned out so pretty and tasted even better! I shared some with my neighbors, and they loved it too.

So this week, I'm sharing that sourdough focaccia recipe with you! Don't let the high hydration scare you. Focaccia is actually one of the most forgiving breads to make, and those big, airy bubbles are absolutely worth it.

I hope you give it a try and enjoy! ☺️

To help you get the best results, here are some ingredients and tools I recommend:

  • Food Scale - Measuring by weight is the easiest way to get consistent results every time.
  • Dutch Oven - Creates steam while baking so you get a beautiful rise and a crisp crust.
  • Straight-Sided Containers - Easier to track bulk fermentation.
  • Bread Sling - Helps you safely transfer dough into a hot Dutch oven.
  • Lame - Gives you control and confidence when scoring your dough for an even rise.
  • Proofer - Allows you to control the proofing temperature to better predict bulk fermentation timing.
  • Aluminum Baking Pan - Key to focaccia with crispy edges and a crisp bottom.

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Do you ever go fruit picking? 🫐 One of my favorite fall traditions is apple picking, but this week I switched things up and went blueberry picking with my sister's family instead. It was so much fun (and delicious)! I ended up bringing home four pounds of blueberries, which are now tucked away in my freezer for future recipes. Besides filling my freezer with blueberries, I also went to...

Hey Reader, Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸 I hope you're having a fun and relaxing long weekend with friends and family. Here in Massachusetts, we're in the middle of a heatwave. It hit 100°F today. As I type this, it's still 80°F in my bedroom 🥵 Before the heat settled in, I managed to harvest all of my shallots and even picked my first cucumbers and zucchini of the season. My little wildflower meadow that...

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, What’s your signature dish you can’t go to a summer cookout without? Mine is Greek pasta salad. I’m not a big fan of mayo-based salads, so anything with a vinaigrette-style dressing is right up my alley. Add feta, olives, and fresh veggies… and I’m very happy 😄 Last weekend, my family and I celebrated Father’s Day at my house. It was such a nice, relaxing day with lots of good food and...
