🍞 Which sourdough recipes should you bake first this year?

Hey Reader,

What's your new year resolution?

While I don’t think you need a specific date to start fresh, I do love using the new year as a chance to check in with myself.

On life, goals, and what I want the year ahead to feel like.

As I shared in my last email, 2025 came with a lot of unexpected personal changes. But that growth spilled into my business too.

It pushed me to rethink how I show up online and what kind of content truly matters to me. And to you.

With AI-generated content everywhere now, I’ve realized how important it is to let you see me behind the recipes.

Not just a website or a list of ingredients, but an actual person who’s baking, learning, and living right alongside you.

I’m naturally introverted, so opening up isn't always easy. But this past year nudged me to add more of myself into what I share.

More weekly life updates in these emails, more personal stories in my posts, more photos of what I’m up to in the kitchen (and beyond). And honestly? It’s felt really good.

So that’s one of my biggest goals going into the new year: to keep showing up as myself, not just as someone who bakes sourdough.

That means:

  • being more present on Instagram and Facebook (I’m slowly getting less camera shy!)
  • sharing more behind-the-scenes moments and everyday life
  • and writing more personal, thoughtful emails like this one

Because connecting with you is truly my favorite part of running this little sourdough community.

Every comment, reply, story share, and photo you send means more to me than I can say.

And this year, I want to lean into that connection even more. By opening up, inviting conversation, and creating a space that feels human… not AI-generated.

If you’re ready for a fresh start in the kitchen this year, baking sourdough is hard to beat.

I’ve rounded up a few simple, beginner-friendly recipes that are perfect for easy wins to boost your confidence.

Start with the basics, add a few easy inclusions, and see which loaf becomes your new favorite! 💛🍞

To help you get the best results, here are some ingredients and tools I recommend:

  • Food Scale - Measuring by weight is the easiest way to get consistent results every time.
  • Dutch Oven - Helps you bake beautiful sourdough loaves.
  • Straight-Sided Containers - Easier to track bulk fermentation.
  • Bread Sling - Helps you safely transfer dough into a hot Dutch oven.
  • Lame - Gives you control and confidence when scoring your dough for an even rise.

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Do you usually make your sourdough loaves with bread flour or all-purpose (or something else)? In most of my recipes, I recommend bread flour by default. But recently I realized something — I had never actually done a true side-by-side comparison myself to see how much of a difference it really makes. So this week I decided to run a little experiment. I made two loaves exactly the same...

This last storm was no joke. ❄️ Here in my part of Massachusetts, we ended up with over 30 inches on top of what was already on the ground. Tuesday was basically spent shoveling myself and the chickens out. I was really grateful that I was only without power for about 36 hours. And that there wasn’t any major damage to my home. The chicken...

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Are you a big coffee drinker? ☕ I can’t start my mornings without a cup. I’ve been making pour over coffee in my Chemex for over 11 years now… and I finally cracked it on Wednesday. Totally my fault. I had it sitting too close to the burner. Oops! But it’s already been replaced, and I took it as a good excuse to treat myself to a brand new water kettle too. Speaking of morning drinks…...
