🍪🥖 Chocolate Chip Sourdough Bread

The Sourdough Slice

Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning.

Hey Reader,

I’ll admit it – I’m a serious chocolate lover. 🍫

I enjoy a piece of chocolate for dessert just about every night. Trader Joe’s chocolate bars are my go-to, though I'm certainly not picky!

So, as a chocolate lover and sourdough baker, it was only a matter of time before I incorporated chocolate into my bread. And let me tell you, the results are pretty delicious.

If you're a chocolate fan like me, you’ll definitely want to try these chocolate-infused loaves. They’re the perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth and enjoy some homemade sourdough, too.

I hope you give them a try and love them as much as I do! 😊

P.S. - You might notice something new today: my newsletter now has a name! It’s The Sourdough Slice, and I’m excited to keep serving you sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning.

Chocolate Chip Sourdough Bread

A simple sourdough bread made with a touch of sugar and lots of melty chocolate chips.

Double Chocolate Sourdough Bread

A decadent dessert loaf made with Dutch-processed cocoa powder and chocolate chips.

To help you get the best results, here are some ingredients and tools I recommend:

  • Dutch-Processed Cocoa - With less acidity than natural cocoa powder, Dutch-processed cocoa provides a richer, more balanced chocolate flavor in sourdough recipes.
  • Lodge 6-Quart Dutch Oven - Perfect for trapping steam and baking sourdough with even heat distribution, resulting in a crispy, golden crust.
  • Kitchen Scale - For accurate measurements and the best results with my recipes, plus fewer dishes to clean!
  • Straight-Sided Container - Ideal for knowing when bulk fermentation is complete, helping your dough rise perfectly every time.
  • Banneton Basket - Helps shape and support your dough as it proofs.
  • Bread Sling - Reusable and makes transferring your dough to the Dutch oven easy without any mess or burns.
  • Lame - For scoring dough with precision, giving your loaf that perfect look and helping it rise more evenly in the oven.

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, It might seem a bit early to talk about summer, but it’ll be here before we know it! I’ve already started some seeds for my garden, including cucumbers, garlic, and dill - three staples I grow every year to make my own pickles. 🥒🧄🌿 As I was thinking about my garden, I started imagining sourdough bread inclusions for the warmer season.
