🍞 Sourdough bread bowls, anyone?

The Sourdough Slice

Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning.

Hey Reader,

Did you bake anything this week? 🍞👩‍🍳

I’ve actually been doing a lot of experimenting in my kitchen lately.

One of my goals this year is to help more people find my recipes, which means I’ve been pushing myself to share more videos over on Instagram and Facebook.

And with the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day coming up, I couldn’t resist making a few fun ones. Sourdough bread bowls for baked brie or dips, and a strawberry sourdough loaf (recipe coming soon!).

I’m usually pretty camera shy, but honestly, I’ve been enjoying it way more than I expected.

And in true New England fashion, we’re also bracing for a big winter storm tomorrow. Up to two feet of snow!

So I did the only responsible thing and stocked up on snacks at Trader Joe’s. ❄️😂

This week, I’m sharing my recipe for sourdough bread bowls, in case you want to make your own.

They’re perfect for filling with soups and stews, dips, or melty baked brie. And they make such an impressive addition to a Super Bowl party spread.

I hope you give them a try and love them as much as I do!

P.S. Check out my Recipe eBooks + Resources page for printable sourdough recipes and guides! 📚📝🍞

To help you get the best results, here are some ingredients and tools I recommend:

  • Food Scale - Measuring by weight is the easiest way to get consistent results every time.
  • Dutch Oven - Helps you bake beautiful sourdough loaves.
  • Straight-Sided Containers - Easier to track bulk fermentation.
  • Bread Sling - Helps you safely transfer dough into a hot Dutch oven.
  • Lame - Gives you control and confidence when scoring your dough for an even rise.

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Do you usually make your sourdough loaves with bread flour or all-purpose (or something else)? In most of my recipes, I recommend bread flour by default. But recently I realized something — I had never actually done a true side-by-side comparison myself to see how much of a difference it really makes. So this week I decided to run a little experiment. I made two loaves exactly the same...

This last storm was no joke. ❄️ Here in my part of Massachusetts, we ended up with over 30 inches on top of what was already on the ground. Tuesday was basically spent shoveling myself and the chickens out. I was really grateful that I was only without power for about 36 hours. And that there wasn’t any major damage to my home. The chicken...

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Are you a big coffee drinker? ☕ I can’t start my mornings without a cup. I’ve been making pour over coffee in my Chemex for over 11 years now… and I finally cracked it on Wednesday. Totally my fault. I had it sitting too close to the burner. Oops! But it’s already been replaced, and I took it as a good excuse to treat myself to a brand new water kettle too. Speaking of morning drinks…...
