🍞🏈 Sourdough for Super Bowl Sunday (try saying that 3 times fast 😆)

Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning.

Hey Reader,

Did you get hit with the storm last week? ❄️

Here in Massachusetts, we ended up with about 16 inches of snow — way more than we’ve seen in a while. I’m incredibly grateful for my wonderful neighbors who helped with snow removal, especially since the chickens’ run door is currently frozen shut and buried in snow (they were not impressed).

Being stuck inside for a few days meant lots of kitchen time, so I leaned into it and added some color to the gray days by baking funfetti birthday cake sourdough bread and focaccia. Recipes for those are coming soon!

Then, just when I thought the week couldn’t get more eventful, a little Carolina wren flew down my chimney and into the house. After a few very exciting minutes, I was thankfully able to safely catch and release it outside.

Even though I don’t really follow football, being from New England means I can’t help but feel excited about the Patriots heading to the Super Bowl.

So in the spirit of the big game, I’m sharing three sourdough recipes today that would be perfect for game day snacking and entertaining.

I hope you give them a try and enjoy them as much as I do! 🍞🏈

To help you get the best results, here are some ingredients and tools I recommend:

  • Food Scale - Measuring by weight is the easiest way to get consistent results every time.
  • Dutch Oven - Helps you bake beautiful sourdough loaves.
  • Straight-Sided Containers - Easier to track bulk fermentation.
  • Bread Sling - Helps you safely transfer dough into a hot Dutch oven.
  • Lame - Gives you control and confidence when scoring your dough for an even rise.
  • Aluminum Baking Pan - Essential for thick, fudgy brownies that cook through evenly.

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Do you usually make your sourdough loaves with bread flour or all-purpose (or something else)? In most of my recipes, I recommend bread flour by default. But recently I realized something — I had never actually done a true side-by-side comparison myself to see how much of a difference it really makes. So this week I decided to run a little experiment. I made two loaves exactly the same...

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, I know I keep talking about the snow, but… wow. This last storm was no joke. ❄️ Here in my part of Massachusetts, we ended up with over 30 inches on top of what was already on the ground. Tuesday was basically spent shoveling myself and the chickens out. I was really grateful that I was only without power for about 36 hours. And that there wasn’t any major damage to my home. The chicken...

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Are you a big coffee drinker? ☕ I can’t start my mornings without a cup. I’ve been making pour over coffee in my Chemex for over 11 years now… and I finally cracked it on Wednesday. Totally my fault. I had it sitting too close to the burner. Oops! But it’s already been replaced, and I took it as a good excuse to treat myself to a brand new water kettle too. Speaking of morning drinks…...
