Hey Reader,
Have you ever experimented with natural food coloring in sourdough bread? ππ
This week, Iβve been having way too much fun playing around with naturally dyeing sourdough using things like beet root powder (red), butterfly pea flower (blue), and freeze-dried strawberry powder (pink). I also still have ube, charcoal, and turmeric sitting in my kitchen waiting for their turn.
My original plan was to make a vibrant red, white, and blue loaf for Memorial Day weekend. But interestingly, the beet root powder baked up brown instead of red. So I swapped it out for freeze-dried strawberries instead and ended up with a really pretty swirled loaf that Iβm quite happy with. Let me know if you want the recipe!
Other than that, this week was filled with a relaxing Motherβs Day celebration, more gardening, and lots of blooming lilacs around the yard π
With Memorial Day weekend coming up and summer right around the corner, I thought this would be the perfect time to share some of my favorite sourdough recipes for summer. From hot dog buns to easy discard desserts, thereβs a little something for everyone.
I hope you give one (or all) of them a try and enjoy! βΊοΈ
