πŸ…πŸž I made sourdough bread with tomato soup instead of water

Hey Reader,

Happy June! β˜€οΈ

It's 90Β°F here today, and I'm writing this from under the umbrella on my back deck. It's a bit hot, but I love being able to sit outside whenever I can.

The peonies are blooming this week so, I picked a few to add to my cute vintage white vase I found at the thrift store.

I'm also gearing up to do a whole lot of yard work tomorrow (see me and my new sump pump tubing that's bigger than me πŸ˜†).

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I'm still very much on my sourdough experimentation streak.

This week, I played around with a bunch of natural food dyes like purple sweet potato, dragonfruit, and blue spirulina. I also made a loaf with tomato soup instead of the water (and turned in into grilled cheese, of course).

It got quite a lot of attention over there (7.5 million views 🀯 and counting) so, that's why I'm sharing it with you today.

I hope you give it a try and enjoy! πŸ’›πŸ…πŸž

To help you get the best results, here are some ingredients and tools I recommend:

  • Food Scale - Measuring by weight is the easiest way to get consistent results every time.
  • Dutch Oven - Creates steam while baking so you get a beautiful rise and crust.
  • Straight-Sided Containers - Easier to track bulk fermentation.
  • Bread Sling - Helps you safely transfer dough into a hot Dutch oven.
  • Lame - Gives you control and confidence when scoring your dough for an even rise.
  • Proofer - Allows you to control the proofing temperature to better predict bulk fermentation timing.

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Do you like going to see live music? If so, what's the last concert you went to? 🎢 Last Friday, my friends and I went to see Noah Kahan at Fenway Park in Boston, and it was amazing! We were right up front and had so much fun singing and dancing along. But now that I'm 37, my feet were definitely aching by the end of the night, and getting home at 1 AM was rough. πŸ˜† The rest of my week...

Hey Reader, Do you ever go fruit picking? 🫐 One of my favorite fall traditions is apple picking, but this week I switched things up and went blueberry picking with my sister's family instead. It was so much fun (and delicious)! I ended up bringing home four pounds of blueberries, which are now tucked away in my freezer for future recipes. Besides filling my freezer with blueberries, I also went to...

Hey Reader, Happy 4th of July! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ I hope you're having a fun and relaxing long weekend with friends and family. Here in Massachusetts, we're in the middle of a heatwave. It hit 100Β°F today. As I type this, it's still 80Β°F in my bedroom πŸ₯΅ Before the heat settled in, I managed to harvest all of my shallots and even picked my first cucumbers and zucchini of the season. My little wildflower meadow that...
