🍪 My Famous Sourdough Chocolate Chip Cookies + Fun Variations

The Sourdough Slice

Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning.

Hey Reader,

Okay, I have to tell you about these cookies.

I first shared this sourdough chocolate chip cookie recipe on the blog over a year ago.

And while it was good then, I’ve been quietly tweaking and perfecting it ever since. And now? I truly think it’s the perfect chocolate chip cookie.

These cookies are soft and chewy in the center with buttery, crisp edges and lots of melty chocolate throughout.

They’re made with brown butter and sourdough discard, and they don’t even need to be chilled (though if you do, the flavor gets even more delicious).

I’m not the only one obsessed—my friends and family beg me to make these all the time.

And I love how versatile they are! You can easily swap out some of the chocolate chips for:

  • M&Ms (perfect for seasonally-themed cookies)
  • White chocolate chunks
  • Heath Bar bits
  • Cadbury Mini Eggs (great for Easter!)
  • Or any festive chocolate candy for the holidays

So whether you're baking up a batch just because, or adding a little something sweet to your summer BBQ table, these cookies have you covered. ❤️💙

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! 😊

P.S. If you’ve been loving my sourdough recipes, I’d be so grateful if you pinned a few to your recipe board on Pinterest. It helps more people find them - and start their own sourdough adventures too! 💛

Sourdough Chocolate Chip Cookies

Made with brown butter and sourdough discard, these cookies are perfectly soft and chewy with deliciously crispy edges.

To help you get the best results, here are some ingredients and tools I recommend:

  • Food Scale - Weighing ingredients ensures your recipes turn out just right every time.
  • Aluminum Baking Sheet - For perfectly golden brown cookies every time.
  • Parchment Paper - Makes cleanup a breeze and prevents the cookies from sticking to the baking sheet.
  • Chocolate Chips - Ghirardelli Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips are my favorite.

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Ever since I started making sourdough garlic bread, it’s become the thing I’m asked to bring to every family gathering—birthday dinners, holidays, you name it. 🧄🥖 And honestly? I don’t mind one bit. It’s crusty, buttery, perfectly garlicky… everything you want garlic bread to be. The tang from the sourdough adds something extra that store-bought bread just can’t match. I’ve got my...

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Guess what? It’s officially blueberry season! 🫐 There’s nothing better than sweet, juicy blueberries freshly picked from a farm. I go blueberry picking every summer and I always end up bringing home more than I know what to do with. Part of last year's blueberry picking haul. After freezing half of what I pick, I usually make sourdough blueberry muffins. And let me tell you—the oat...
