πŸŽ’ 5 Sourdough Recipes to Make Before School Starts

The Sourdough Slice

Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning.

Hey Reader,

So tell me... are you ready for fall baking season, or is it just me? πŸ‚πŸŽƒ

Like I mentioned last week, my kitchen is in full-on fall baking mode despite the hot weather and booming garden outside. This week, I made lots of sourdough pumpkin and apple goodies that I'll be sharing with you soon!

I also harvested an abundance of tomatoes and cucumbers that I'll be turning into sauce and pickles this weekend.

But as summer starts winding down, we're also heading into back-to-school season. And while I don't have kids, I actually love this time of year because it feels like a little motivational reset.

For me, that usually means cleaning, organizing, and, most importantly, stocking my pantry and freezer for those days when life gets a little busy.

So today, I'm sharing five of my favorite make-ahead sourdough recipes that are perfect for busy mornings, lunches, and snacks.

I hope you find one you love and enjoy! ☺️

To help you get the best results, here are some ingredients and tools I recommend:

  • Food Scale - Measuring by weight is the easiest way to get consistent results every time.
  • Dutch Oven - Creates steam while baking so you get a beautiful rise and crust.
  • Aluminum Loaf Pan - Promotes even baking for soft, golden sandwich loaves.
  • Straight-Sided Containers - Easier to track bulk fermentation.
  • Bread Sling - Helps you safely transfer dough into a hot Dutch oven.
  • Lame - Gives you control and confidence when scoring your dough for an even rise.
  • Proofer - Allows you to control the proofing temperature to better predict bulk fermentation timing.

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Picture this: It's 6 AM, I'm still half asleep, and I'm boiling water for my coffee. I turn the burner knob off and suddenly... ⚑POP⚑... a big blue spark of electricity shoots out of the back of my oven. Being absolutely terrified of fire, I immediately turned off the breaker and started panicking. There aren't many things more horrifying to a baker than having an oven suddenly go on...

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, Do you bake bread to sell, or mostly just for fun and for your family to enjoy? I mostly bake for the blog, but lately I've been getting more requests from friends and neighbors to bake loaves for them. While I don't think I'd ever want it to become a full-time thing, it's been a lot of fun. I love seeing their faces light up when I hand them a fresh loaf. This week, one of my neighbors...

The Sourdough Slice Serving sourdough recipes, stories, and inspiration every Saturday morning. Hey Reader, It's a rainy and gray day here in Massachusetts today. But honestly, I'm grateful for it. I've been pretty busy this week between the garden, blog, and other fun summer activities, so having an excuse to relax on the couch today has been nice. Between all the cucumbers from my garden and my neighbor's, I ended up making 14 quart-sized jars of dill pickles and 3 quart-sized jars of bread...
